My experience was being blown away because I was embraced by people I thought would, or should, hate me. I was so blown away, I opened a bar, The R&R Tavern, in Hanoi in 1995. Had it for 18 years. I brought quite a few ex-enemy combatants together, U.S. and Viet, for meetings that turned into a celebration somehow; tears and joy, very hard to explain. I had a young soldier during my visit to the tunnels of Cu Chi ask me, if we (Vietnam) have a problem in the future, would the U.S. please be on Viet Nam's side.
